REVIEW | If there is one thing everyone who knows her can say of Kate Sullivan, it’s that she doesn’t back down. It’s this tenacious part of her personality that’s about to come in handy. As one of the best attorney’s at her firm, Kate is about to try a big pharmaceutical case; a case that involves clients who suffered terrible losses. Their loved ones were all victims of a new drug with the Mason Pharmaceutical label. A conglomerate corporation, Mason has the resources (and money) to sweep this under the rug, and they begin by hiring the best law firm money can get. An exciting adventure awaits the reader as we journey with Sofi Snow.

REVIEW | There are two things 17-year-old Sofi Snow is good at. Keeping her guard up, and protecting her bother. It’s all she’s ever known. She’s fierce in her every day and as an online gamer. Her world is an Earth ruled by cooperation’s rather than a form of government. Her primary goal though is to keep her young brother, who is a part of the games’ virtual and physical arena fights, safe. When an explosion rocks the arena, Sofi is injured and Shilo is nowhere to be found.

Convinced he’s a alive, Sofi escapes the hospital (after overhearing the sinister plans for her) and sets about finding her brother. To enter the forbidden world where the Delonese live (the alien planet surrounding Earth), Sofi needs help. She’ll need the kind of help only Earth’s playboy, Miguel, one of the Delonese’s ambassadors, can offer. A dangerous possibility not only because ambassadors aren’t allowed on the planet, a complication further agitated because they share a history both wish to forget. Without Warning is a wonderful novel not to be underestimated or overlooked. Its brilliant writing coupled with its kick-butt heroine (and hero who had me at “Marine”) who is as capable of rescuing as she is of being rescued…

REVIEW: Katie Singleton’s personal and professional life is wrought with tragedy. But the one constant in her life is her work as an elite bodyguard at Elite Guardians. Her current client she happened upon quite by accident. Though he’s known for his string of popular gourmet restaurants, Daniel Matthews never expected to be the subject of a stalker. When Katie becomes involved in Daniel’s life after a suspected arsonist sets his restaurant ablaze, and the discovery of a body, Katie assists the former Marine in discovering who is behind this. Review: It’s hard to believe we’re already upon another launch for one of the talented Ronie Kendig’s novels and yet the calendar says that is exactly where we are. The second book in her newest series, this follows the titular Raptor team member Brian “Hawk” Bledsoe, who manages to get into quite the scrapes in the beginning of the book – one that transfers him to another team following a leave that sends him back  home. Then there is Fekiria Haidary. Fekiria is an Afghan pilot who has been trained by the American’s only her beliefs not to trust them makes it hard for her to get along with any of them – even if she does think Hawk is handsome, his annoying manners don’t endear him to her. Circumstances put them together in such a way that the two of them have to depend on the other for survival and the possibility of friendship… Continue reading “Hawk by Ronie Kendig”

Review: Typical to what we’ve come to expect from the talents of Irene Hannon, her final novel in her latest (aka my favorite!) series is no let down. Yet, somehow it’s creatively new and different. It tells the story of grieving mother, Kate Marshal whose husband died three years ago and though she is operating under the assumption her four-year-old son died in the same boating accident as her husband, Keith’s body was never found. When a chance encounter in a busy shopping mall leads her to believe that her son is still alive, Kate employs the help of Phoenix, INC. detective Connor Sullivan in the hopes that she will finally have the answers that have plagued her for years. What neither one of them expected was the web of secrets they’d uncover. Continue reading “Deceived by Irene Hannon”

Review: In the suspense genre, there have been far too many stories to possibly pick out a favorite. Since more than one of these books often finds a place on the bookshelf, my opinion on a favorite suspense author wavers each time I read a new book from one of the five or so authors whose novels fall into this category and I regularly read. Lynette Eason’s follow up to her ongoing series has again thrown my “mental” rankings into turmoil. In it, we meet Dani Harding, a woman with an 11-year-old son and a husband, who is anything but loving. Instead he’s an abuser with a badge and a man who erases Dani’s cries for help by covering up any claims she makes to law enforcement. Dani finally gathers the courage to leave Kurt, only to learn that same day, Kurt has been killed. Assuming she’s finally safe, she returns in the hopes of rebuilding her life. Trouble again finds her when it becomes apparent someone is still out to do her harm – this leads her to Adam Buchanan, a former law enforcement agent now working with a private security firm… and someone with many secrets of his own. Review: Any new book announcement with this authors name in it is one I take notice of. With exception to one or two of Colleen’s historical novels, when I crack open the pages of her latest novel, I am nearly always confident of a pleasing literary journey. No matter the premise, her books always seem to show up on my yearly to read list because in her writing, readers are fortunate to find that happy medium lighthearted contemporary romance and a slight “edge” of mystery that isn’t terrifying nevertheless is “edgy” enough to dismiss it from falling into the parameters of being considered “cozy mystery.” Without being strictly a mystery, this third novel in her latest series is a more unique premise and is as sweet as its predecessors. Secrets are something Elin Summerhill has lived with for the three years she was married. She existed on little affection and grew comfortable in the chasm between her and husband Tim. Now two years later, Elin is moving on after his death, she’s a single mother and recovering from a heart transplant. Only trouble is, she is experiencing nightmares, dreams of her donor’s murder – and she’s convinced the killer is after her. Enter Mark Everton, an FBI agent – an old acquaintance who is a cousin of Elin’s best friend, and a part of her past she’d rather forget. He’s the one person who may be able to help Elin and the one person whose help she doesn’t want. Continue reading “Seagrass Pier by Colleen Coble”

Review: Captain Dean Watters is a man on a mission. He has a Special Forces team to lead… and secrets to keep buried. But with insurgents terrorizing the Afghan territory – and the young children learning under the teachers there to give them an education – where they are currently stationed, their mission may prove more difficult – especially when the team meets the pretty American schoolteacher, Zahrah Zarrick. As the daughter of a general, Zahrah knows all there is to know about the life of a military man, and much as she loves her father, she felt a calling from God to return to her mother’s homeland and teach the children who otherwise would not receive any form of education. When secrets come to light that reveal Zahrah is not just a high-ranking officer’s daughter, but also a target all on her own, Dean will have to go into the protected areas of his past to be sure than Zahrah’s life isn’t used to compromise the U.S. Military’s missions.

There is nothing quite so disappointing as a series that introduces us to a cast of beloved characters – whether they’re considered primary or secondary, only for some of them to never have their own story. Most series come out as the usual three-book trilogy, which for the best kind of books is never enough. Coming across a series that spans five books and covers all of its family members – the McKenna siblings, was something I hadn’t anticipated so learning it was a journey with talented suspense author, Dani Pettrey was a very good thing. Silenced is book four in the adventurous, Alaskan-set series about a group of five siblings, which focuses on eldest sister, Kayden McKenna and the man who has quietly loved her. Ever since the McKenna’s “adopted” him, Jake Westin’s troubled past – one he fled from in Boston, has slowly healed by loving Kayden. Only trouble is, Jake’s love is unrequited. Mistrusting Jake’s unusual knowledge of criminology and refusal to reveal his past, Kayden closes off her heart to him with no promise to accept the honorary McKenna until the truth of his past is exposed, and when events place Kayden with Jake – particularly when she discovers a body during a family day of rock climbing, the McKenna family must chase the truth to piece together a mystery.
