REVIEW | Tom Sherbourne is a loner. He may have come through the war physically intact, but emotionally, it’s a part of his life he closes off. As the new light keeper on Janus Island, Tom welcomes the solitude. But while on shore leave, he meets Isabel. A beautiful girl full of life and love, she makes an impression on Tom, and he on her. So much is their first meeting impressed on her that during one of his rare shore leaves, she proposes they marry. When time doesn’t waver her affection, the pair marries and move to the island, where they happily begin their life. But the future suffers one too many losses until a baby, adrift in a boat, arrives on Janus, and brings with her healing, hope and heartbreak. Continue reading “The Light Between Oceans by M.L. REVIEW | Sometimes a novel comes along that delights, enchants and entertains. Sometimes a novel comes along that disappoints and ends in disaster. And then, sometimes, a book comes along that couples only good things and leaves its readers speechless. One such novel is The Lady and the Lionheart. This is the kind of novel that left me nervous to attempt a review because it’s that good. But as I sit down to write out my thoughts in what I hope is a coherent manner, I am again flooded with memories (these few days later) of how memorable this story is. REVIEW: Some novels pull you in with an instantaneous “tug” that grabs hold of your reader’s heart, and refuses to let go long after a well-designed opening. Such was the case with Kristy Cambron’s marvelous gem of a novel. Beginning with the “end” and tumbling back three years prior to the prologue, I don’t think there is ever a dull moment in this novel. Before I step further into my thoughts of ‘Ringmaster,’ let me introduce you to the characters you’ll meet.   Continue reading “The Ringmaster’s Wife by Kristy Cambron – Atmospheric Jazz Under the Big Top”

Review: I’ve never been what someone would call an avid reader of historical events or figures. Any kind of historical “biography” type story kind of scares me off. Those I do experience are exclusive to the silver screen, which we all know is often skewed to suit entertainment purposes. That is also where anything I know about Martin Luther really came from as I vaguely remember watching the film starring Joseph Fiennes in the role of Luther. When I learned Jody Hedlund was tackling the iconic figure, I confess my reaction was one of neutrality. However, it’s safe to posit I have a different opinion now I’ve actually read this nearly 400-page tome…  Continue reading “Luther and Katharina by Jody Hedlund”
