Housed by an uncle who cruelly demands more money from them, Elise decides she must strike out on her own before her family is torn apart. Leaving her family in the capable hands of a kind-hearted woman trying to start a mission, Elise sets out for unknown territory: Illinois.

Once there, she is hired to cook by the wealthy entrepreneur Thornton Quincy. Facing his own complicated challenges, Thornton cannot help an interest in Elise. REVIEW | Sometimes a wrapping can be deceiving, either for the good or bad. Other times it matches perfectly with the story we are about to step inside. Becky Wade’s novels fall into this ideal with class, grace and romcom bliss. Becky reemerged in the fiction game some five or six years back with the debut My Stubborn Heart, a story about a broken hockey player and the woman who helps him change. Then came the Porter’s, a family comprised of three elder brothers and their young, wild child of a sister Dru. Finally, we are honored to return to small-town Holley, Texas and meet the woman Dru grew up to be.   Continue reading “Her One and Only by Becky Wade – Fall Head Over Heels for This Romance”

…LIKE NEVER BEFORE is another fresh and inspiring story; it’s traditional without conforming, full of fantastic and snappy dialogue, and genuine in its pursuit of heart-tugging and pure love.

If you’re a fan of contemporary romantic-comedies, there is no story better to become blissfully lost in than one with Melissa Tagg’s name proudly streaming across its cover (especially when its as darling as Like Never Before). If you’re a fan of inspirational stories (with romance) then picking up this novel is a must. If you’re a fan of small town charm then, yep, you guessed it, read a Tagg novel. All of this and more holds up the specs that are unique to “Tagg branding” in Melissa’s latest novel, Like Never Before. Continue reading “Like Never Before by Melissa Tagg”

REVIEW: It seems only yesterday I was having all the swoony gushing thoughts (and would later review) for the cover art Until I Found You sported. (All of which was most likely chronicled in one of my “Cover Candy” posts.) It is then impossibly difficult to believe that Someone Like You is Victoria Bylin’s third novel with Bethany House. Charming in the sweetest of ways, the story waiting to be discovered inside its pages is one of hope, a bit of adversity, love, and working in the laughs, there’s plenty of unexpected chaos. Before I get into a few more details of the books quirks, here’s a more detailed look at the story. Continue reading “Someone Like You by Victoria Bylin”

REVIEW: What began in Undeniably Yours draws to a swoon-worthy close in this sweet novella that is more “chapter story” than anything else. Without breaking itself into sections, this scene-long story gives us a peek into the lives of two characters we began to root for in A Love Like Ours, Becky last Porter family novel. The story is as simplistically sweet as it is perfect, about single mom Amber and the kind (not to mention good-looking) single father fireman Will, who captures her guarded heart. Having been dating for seven months, Amber and Will have discussed their future, but recently Will hasn’t been as excited about that future leading Amber to doubt what’s next. A flat tire, walk in the rain and Christmas carols are all involved in what comes next – which is, of course perfectly festive.   Continue reading “The Proposal by Becky Wade”

Synopsis: Former Marine Jake Porter has far deeper scars than the one that marks his face. He struggles with symptoms of PTSD, lives a solitary life, and avoids relationships.
When Lyndie James, Jake’s childhood best friend, lands back in Holley, Texas, Jake cautiously hires her to exercise his Thoroughbreds. Lyndie is tender-hearted, fiercely determined, and afraid of nothing, just like she was as a child. Jake pairs her with Silver Leaf, a horse full of promise but lacking in results, hoping she can solve the mystery of the stallion’s reluctance to run.

Though Jake and Lyndie have grown into very different adults, the bond that existed during their childhood still ties them together. Against Jake’s will, Lyndie’s sparkling, optimistic personality begins to tear down the walls he’s built around his heart. A glimmer of the hope he’d thought he’d lost returns, but fears and regrets still plague him. Will Jake ever be able to love Lyndie like she deserves, or is his heart too shattered to mend? – Goodreads Continue reading “A Love Like Ours, by Becky Wade”

Review: Though she’s always had a fantastic sense of humor that rolled with her unique style (anyone who reads Melissa’s blog will be able to pull out moments that indicate her fab signature), I don’t know if her books have risen to the level her fourth full-length novel does. Her author note in the back may acknowledge that this was the hardest book she’s yet written, but let me tell you, the results are rewarding. The story is about Kate Walker, a TV script writer who seems to be running out of work. Following her career high as an Emmy-winning writer, she has since declined. Unsuccessful at selling much of anything beyond the odd romance to a TV network, she is lacking in knowing her next step. Then her home town of Maple Valley, Iowa has a tornado rip through and it sends Kate rushing from Chicago to her family’s aid. While there she meets her brother’s best friend, Colton Greene. A former NFL player who is watching his own career slip away, Colton didn’t plan on visiting Maple Valley with Logan, but he is just the same. While there, he’s thrust into helping his hosts recover from the tornado, getting pressure to write a book and in-between it all, cherishing the time he spends with Kate Walker. Review: For three years, readers were invited on a journey with the McKenna family. Fictional yes, but so real was their depiction it seemed as if they might be next-door neighbors or best friends. Ushering in 2015 brought about the last story from the saga that started in 2012 with Submerged. This is the book with the most build-up considering it was about the one sibling that was never really properly introduced. The wild child of the family, Reef rarely spent time at home during his adult years. Instead he travelled and tried to fill his restlessness with casual dating and the adrenaline of extreme sports. Now he’s finally settled down and found peace in his belief in God. But his reunion with family and childhood friend Kirra Jacobs is sort lived. Kirra’s uncle disappears during an Iditarod musher race. Somehow it ties into a past Kirra never knew of her uncle and her cousin, Meg is missing. Continue reading “Sabotaged, by Dani Pettrey”

Synopsis: Anna O’Brien leads a predictable and quiet life as a map librarian at the illustrious Library of Congress until she stumbles across a baffling mystery of a ship disappeared at sea. She is thwarted in her attempts to uncover information, but her determination outweighs her shyness and she turns to a dashing congressman for help.

Luke Callahan was one of the nation’s most powerful congressmen until his promising career became shadowed in scandal. Eager to share in a new cause and intrigued by the winsome librarian, he joins forces with Anna to solve the mystery of the lost ship.

Opposites in every way, Anna and Luke are unexpectedly drawn to each other despite the strict rules forbidding Anna from any romantic entanglement with a member of Congress.

From the gilded halls of the Capitol, where powerful men shape the future of the nation, to the scholarly archives of the nation’s finest library, Anna and Luke are soon embroiled in secrets much bigger and more perilous than they ever imagined. Is bringing the truth to light worth risking all they’ve ever dreamed for themselves? – Goodreads Continue reading “Beyond all Dreams, by Elizabeth Camden”
