Review | Exotic travel, a closest full of exquisite ball gowns and her sisters is enough for Kahlen. Or at it was. This was before she met Akinli. Kahlen is exactly human, and her relationship will threaten everything she’s promised to do. To start with, she is at the will of the Ocean for one hundred years. She owes a debt meaning her life is not her own. Instead, Kahlen (and her sisters!) are Sirens. Otherworldly creatures who though human in appearance are anything but. As Kahlen struggles with her the human part of her soul resurfacing, she must decide how best to protect Akinli. From the Ocean… and from her.

Novels that resemble – no matter the concept the classic fable, The Little Mermaid are a rarity. This is especially true in comparison to the re-tellings of Beauty and the Beast or Cinderella, which are abundant. Pitching this as a Little Mermaid reimagining isn’t really fair because it is different, but the idea lingers in the readers mind. The premise is unique and I found the characterizations particularly heart-tugging.

REVIEW | As a reader who (for reasons unknown) best loves the contemporary genre, reading Courtney Walsh’s novels was high on my priority list. But despite best intentions I’d not opened the pages to discover her brand of Story. Until now. Inside these pages, a story of joy, disappointment, betrayal and the healing power of forgiveness unfold, all of which rises to the surface as each of these layers is beautifully peeled away.  Continue reading “Change of Heart by Courtney Walsh – a Complex Contemporary Novel with Depth”
