Dev agrees to take the case, but long before the final clue is traced, he finds himself falling for Laura and he is willing to go to any length to be sure Darcy – and Laura are safe from any danger there may be somehow entangled in Darcy’s disappearance. Review: There’s something comforting in experiencing a retelling of a beloved piece of literature, no matter the form. Dozens of writer’s have been tasked with doing this very thing. No one in the Christian author world is more widely known than Melanie Dickerson, and having already respun Snow White and Beauty & the Beast, she has taken on Cinderella. This version introduces us to the kind-hearted but ill-treated Gisela. Ridiculed by her stepsisters and stepmother since her father’s death Gisela is treated as little more than a servant and she lives to do her stepmothers bidding. This hasn’t kept her from dreaming or wondering about the boy who once bought her father’s prized horse, Valten, the duke’s son. With many years between their first meeting and now, Gisela and Valten again meet but will fate again intervene to keep them strangers? Continue reading “The Captive Maiden by Melanie Dickerson”

Chasing Hope by Kathryn Cushman

About the Book:Book - Chasing Hope
Author: Kathryn Cushman
Publisher: Bethany House
Publication Date: 2013
Genre: Contemporary Fiction; Christian
Rating: 3 ½ out of 5

Review: Rare to the “familiar” reading material that finds a place on my shelves, this book first inspired interest when I saw the cover – eclipsed in its lovely design was a kind of “pull” for would-be readers, not only was it pretty from an artistic angle, it also seemed to compel us to discover what was in-between that outer image – to, in a sense, give chase to what promised to be an emotional story. That is exactly what Chasing Hope turns out to be. It follows two young women – a 22-year-old college student named Sabrina with a broken past and 16-year-old Brandy, a tough girl with an attitude to match – who are brought together by a strange twist of fate. By a favor to her grandmother, Sabrina finds herself saddled with being a training running coach to the rebellious teen – a relationship that unleashes Sabrina’s own regrets and missed dreams. Review: Miranda Woodruff – known as “Randi” to friends, has just taken “complicated” to whole new level. Three years ago, she began her own homebuilding show with more than ratings on the line, she also had the love of a good man named Robbie and her love for him bubbled over into her early first season tapings when she claimed him as her husband rather than labeling him as the fiancé he was. After things fell apart, including a wedding that never came to be, fledging ratings are plaguing the show during the taping of her fourth season of From the Ground Up, leaving Miranda scrambling for a husband and some good PR. To make matters more complex, reporter Matthew Knox has been assigned to shadow Miranda and chronicle her life – as a TV celebrity whose private life has been secreted away, more than one celebrity tabloid is curious to catch glimpses of Miranda’s private life, and Matthew is just the guy to get the scoop.
